Since 1978, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) has cultivated young Latinos to prepare them to be the next generation of American leaders. By providing opportunities to explore and expand their professional and personal development, CHCI has created a transformative experience for Latino youth and we have worked tirelessly to ensure that every sector reflects the talent and diversity of our great nation.
Our founders had a clear vision of a strong America made possible with the many contributions of educated and civic-minded Latino leaders engaged in and contributing to all aspects of American society.
The CHCI experience translates that vision into action. It places emerging Latino leaders on a new trajectory by inspiring high school and college completion, and providing programs to explore public policy and leadership in our nation’s capital. These critical opportunities position Latinos for great professional and personal achievement that extends beyond Washington, D.C. This is evidenced by our successful CHCI alumni, who remain committed to the organization that helped shape their early careers. Many return to their communities as engaged leaders and forces of social good that create positive change across the country.
CHCI maintains its steadfast dedication to developing the next generation of Latino leaders and the progress in advancing our mission is visible in all sectors. It is especially evident in the chambers of the House and Senate, where this year Congress inaugurated the largest group of Hispanic members in history, including the first Latina U.S. Senator. But our work is far from over.
Now more than ever, it’s important for the Latino community to come together to acknowledge our social, economic and civic contributions throughout American history and prepare to defend the American Dream. Reflecting on our collective progress gives us hope that we can, and must, continue to build a better future for our community and all Americans.
Join us for our Hispanic Heritage Month (HHM) events, which gather innovators and change makers for important dialogue, and take back to your communities a plan of action to respond to the challenges and opportunities ahead. Beyond HHM, there are many ways to support our mission and we invite you to contact us to explore them.
